How to resize a signature for an online form

Online applications often ask for a scanned signature within a small file size, commonly somewhere between 10 KB and 100 KB depending on the form. A phone photo of a signature is usually far larger than that. Here is how to prepare one on your Android phone with PixPress.
1. Capture a clean signature
- Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper.
- Take the photo in good light, straight on, without shadows.
- Crop close around the signature in your gallery app, leaving a little white space. PixPress resizes images but does not crop them.
- If the form gives exact dimensions, such as 140 × 60 pixels, crop to that shape first. For 140 × 60, that means a strip a little more than twice as wide as it is tall.
2. Choose the preset that matches the form
PixPress has three signature presets. Each one resizes the image by its longest side and keeps the file at or below a set size:

These presets are shown in the app in India, where these forms are used. Anywhere else, use Size Limit as described below.
3. Compress and check it
- Open PixPress, tap Add Photos and pick your cropped signature.
- In Compression Settings, choose Size Limit, open Quick presets and pick the signature preset from the list.
- Tap Compress, then use Compare to make sure the signature is still clear.
- Save or share the result, and upload it to the form.
If your form uses a different limit
Choose Size Limit and type the form's maximum in Maximum file size. PixPress keeps the image at or below it. For very small limits, such as 20 KB, the Exam Signature preset is more reliable, because it also reduces the pixel size.
Some forms also set a minimum, for example 30 KB. PixPress never makes a file larger, so if a result comes out below the minimum, start again from your original photo rather than an already compressed copy, and crop a little less tightly.
